Darlington County HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

In March 2009 we dedicated our 15th home and currently have 2 more under construction. We strive to build an equal number of homes in both Hartsville and Darlington, SC.

Our ReStore in Hartsville is open 3 days a week and provides a major source of funding for our building program.

Nucor has finished their home and dedicated it to Habitat. In March the new homeowners, the Thomas family, received their new keys and welcomed everyone after the dedication ceremony. Thanks to all the Nucor volunteers who helped make their dream of a decent affordable home a reality!

In preparation for the third annual Charlotte Blitz Build, being held June 15-19, we're rushing to prepare the lots for our eighteenth and nineteenth houses. We have the located property and plan to close soon. Starting from a framed floor, the blitz build participants will work 5 days, framing, and sheeting the two houses. This will be the first year to do two homes so mark your calendar, and join us for this historic, inspiring event!
